DiGregorio Concrete started negotiations by demanding a laundry list of concessions. But after a one-day strike, members changed the company’s attitude and won a contract that preserves their 8-hour guarantee, maintains funding for health & welfare and pension, and protects seniority.

“The company came in to negotiations thinking they could push us and our union’s new leadership around,” says steward Jeff Gauch. “Their initial proposal was three pages worth of concessions and they wanted to get rid of our guaranteed hours and change start times. We stuck together, stood firm, and told them ‘We’d rather have no job than half a job.’ After a one-day strike and tough negotiations, we forced them to take all the concessions off the table and won a strong contract.”
